What changed in version 2.1: the in-app school section now also shows the US school, Maevious US, Inc. (see section 1).
What changed in version 2.0: Maevious Learn now offers two curricula — the national curriculum of England and a US curriculum for grades 2–12 — so this policy now covers families in both countries, including a section for parents in the United States (section 9). We also corrected some details: the app does not currently send any usage analytics (section 2), our email provider sends from its EU region (section 4), and we no longer list an image-hosting provider we do not use.
Maevious Learn is a free practice app for school students. Each child's profile follows one curriculum, chosen by the parent or carer: the national curriculum of England (Key Stages 1–4) or a US curriculum for grades 2–12 (built from published US standards such as the Common Core and the Next Generation Science Standards). It is published by Daralexion Ltd ("we", "us"), which is the data controller for the information described here.
Maevious Learn is a parent/carer app. The account holder is an adult. Your child uses the app through a learner profile you create inside your account — your child is never asked to create their own login, give an email address, or tell us anything about themselves.
The online schools promoted inside the app ("Online school") are operated by separate companies: Maevious Ltd (the UK school, maevious.com) and Maevious US, Inc. (the US school, maevious.us). Each is a separate data controller with its own privacy notice. Which school the app shows depends only on the curriculum you chose for each child's profile (England, US, or both when they differ); we do not share anything about you or your child with either school, and using this app does not sign you up to any marketing from either of them.
We collect the least we can to run the app.

We do not collect your date of birth, address, phone number or any payment details in the app.
You enter the first three items when you create or edit a profile. The rest is created as your child practises.

We do not collect your child's email address, date of birth, exact age, location, photograph, voice, contacts, or any way to contact your child. There is no chat, no messaging, no public profile and no way for a child to post or share anything. There are no adverts in the app.
Some information stays on the phone or tablet and is never sent to us: the parent PIN (kept in the device's secure storage), practice reminders (scheduled by the device itself — we hold no push-notification address for your device), display preferences such as daily goals and hiding scores, and read-aloud, which uses the device's own text-to-speech. The app also keeps a copy of your family's profiles and progress on the device so that practice works offline; signing out or deleting your account removes that copy.
The app does not currently send any usage analytics. It contains support for privacy-preserving analytics (PostHog, hosted in the EU), but this is switched off in the published app. If we ever switch it on, we will update this policy first. When on, it would be limited to a fixed list of events (such as "lesson completed"), tied to a random account identifier and never to your email, your name, your child's nickname, or any free text.
Like any online service, our hosting and email providers keep technical logs for security and reliability — for example, sign-in events and the network (IP) address a request came from, and whether an email was delivered.

We never market to children. Information about the school is shown to parents only, behind the parent PIN, and is clearly labelled.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We use these service providers, who process it on our instructions:

Lesson content (not personal information) is written with the help of Anthropic's Claude. That process works with curriculum content only and never receives information about you or your child.
Transfers. Our database and sign-in are hosted in the EU, and our emails are sent from the EU. Where a provider is a company based outside the UK/EEA, we rely on the data-protection and transfer terms in our agreement with that provider.
Daralexion Ltd and Maevious Ltd are separate controllers; any information passing between them (for example, confirming that a referral joined) is governed by a data-sharing agreement.
Under UK GDPR you (and, where appropriate, your child) have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, and port your personal data, and to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). Use the in-app deletion described above, or email info@maevious.com for anything else.
We have designed the app to the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code: high privacy by default, data minimisation, no nudge techniques or dark patterns, no profiling of children for advertising, no location data at all, child-friendly explanations, and no detrimental use of children's data. This is documented in our internal Data Protection Impact Assessment (available on request).
This section applies to families using the app in the United States, including children under 13.
How a child comes to use the app. Only an adult can create an account: the account holder signs up with their own email address and password and confirms that they are the child's parent or carer. A child's learner profile can only be created inside that account, by the account holder. Children never sign up, log in, or enter an email address, and the app never asks a child for personal information.
What we collect from or about your child, how we use it, and who sees it are described in sections 2, 4 and 5. In short: a nickname you choose, the curriculum and grade you choose, an avatar, and the record of their practice — used only to run the app and to show you their progress. We do not show advertising, do not use your child's information for advertising or to build advertising profiles, and do not sell it or share it with third parties for their own purposes.
